Jina's Great Grandmother Receives the Boston Post Cane
On March 1, 2006 Jennie Neleski received the Boston Post Cane from the Town of Lamoine. Mrs. Neleski is Jina's Great Grandmother. She's 97 years old. At right is Selectman chair Jo Cooper presenting Jennie with the cane.
The entire family was on hand at the Courtland Living Center in Ellsworth for this special event to mark the town's oldest living citizen. The Boston Post Cane was originally devised in 1909. Made of ebony with a stamped gold head, the Boston Post Newspaper (now defunct) sent one to every town in New England as a gimmick to increase readership. (Left to right - Bill Neleski, Ben Haslam (Jina's Brother), Jennie, and Patti)
