Jina's Gym, Inc. Board Minutes

July 23, 2008

The meeting convened at 7:15 P.M. at the home of Stuart & Lisa Branch, 18 Bloomfield Park Rd. , Lamoine. Those attending were: Stuart Branch, Heather Fowler, Patti Haslam, Brett Jones, Bill & Enid Neleski, John & Penelope Walls. Absent were: Lisa Branch Tyler Crawford, McKenzie Curtis, Amy Duym, Carol Korty, Stu Marckoon, Bob Pulver, Tom StClaire, Connie Wallace and Jim Willis.

Stuart Branch moved and it was seconded to approve the June 4 minutes emailed previously to the members; they were unanimously acceptance.

The Treasurer's report was given by Heather Fowler. No monies spent or received. Balance in checkbook is $85.10. Treasurer's report accepted.

Heather gave an update from Eaton & Peabody: Nat Putnam has not received Non-Profit status from the Feds; it takes months. When received, we can transfer funds from the Lamoine Consolidated School Jina Gym Fund. The total legal fees will be $750.00. The filing fee for the 501 3C has been paid by Eaton & Peabody. This will also be the annual fee when filing the 940 Form. Stu reminded us that the CPA firm of Horton, McFarland and Veazie has offered their annual services for filing at no charge.

Enid had talked to Tom St. Claire for update on the building materials donated by Associated Builders. No additional information. Materials can remain at Associated Builders up to a year. Assoc. Builders will notify Tom when the crane is available. Heather said Perry will be helping with the move to Tom's Sullivan lot and later in the fall will be the best time. We discussed whether to sell for scrap prior to moving or hold onto the material for possible increase in value. Any use of the materials for a building will probably require official approval. No vote. Bill will check on estimated value for scrap. Enid will send Associated Builders a thank you letter including their estimates of the current scrap value at $12,000 and their donation value of $25,000, their estimated re-sale value, when we receive our tax exempt status.

John asked that we discuss the school vote. Bill felt there were mixed feelings in the Community regarding the school population and support for kids. Brett felt it was important to note that the loss was by only 18 votes. Patti mentioned that Lamoine has worked hard to maintain and improve the school. School Committee has to present another budget for Town Meeting vote and referendum vote to follow.

RSU discussion: Brett said there is a rough draft out of the proposed RSU; he feels that LCS will remain. The RSU will eventually determine where students will attend school. Enid had a copy of the draft as she attended the July 16 meeting at EHS. Part of Union 92 is now talking with Ellsworth and Union 96 and maybe some other schools. School buildings are proposed to become RSU property. The Selectmen have discussed splitting the school property from the ball field and the Fire Dept. The Jina Gym on school property is not a good proposition at this time.

FUND RAISING: Bottle Drive date voted to be moved to Saturday, August 9, 9-12 A.M. Helpers to meet at LCS at 8:30 A.M. Patti to co-ordinate routes. Patti and/or Enid will email information to the Ellsworth American, Stu for the Town TV station an the Jina Gym web site and Angie Butler for emails and radio station public service announcements. Truck drivers and volunteers are needed. Stacey Curtis will put up a sign for Jina Gym donations and bottles can be dropped off at any time. He'll have a designated area. Bill will make signs. Penny will request permission to use the marquee at the Town Hall and the School. Board members will make phone calls. Heather won't be here Aug. 9, but will pick up in her area prior to Aug. 9. Stu said he'd be sure Tyler was off on that day and he'd talk to Stacey. Enid will call Tyler and recruit other buddies.

Restaurant bottles: Enid to call Bar Harbor businesses who she and Patti previously contacted from Stacy Curtis' list. Little Anthony's had promised June & July refunds; and McKay's promised 50% of their refunds (no dates specified). The Chart Room will donate what others are doing. Bill Fennelly, Lamoine Transfer Station, gave Enid permission to take bottles for the next 2 weeks. Bill, John & Penny will meet Stacey and Bill Fennelly on Monday, July 28, for the first pick up.

The Golf Tournament will be held the last Sat. of September, 27th . Rain date 28th , Bill Neleski reported. The First has donated $1036 towards tee shirts and prizes. Bar Harbor Banking and Trust has donated $500 towards prizes. A few other donations have been received. Enid gave out letters to solicit donors to Stu, Patti and John and Penny Wall.

OTHER: John talked to someone at Maine Community Foundation. They cannot assist with capital funds, but programs can be funded. Enid reported that we had received $500 from one of their funds in 2005.

Next meeting: Wednesday, August 27, at Branchs'. Adjourned at 8:45 P.M.

Respectfully Submitted,

Enid Neleski, Secretary
